Privacy policy

Read on to see what information ends up with MemorialBooked, what we use it for, when anyone else gets it and which choices are yours. In this policy, MemorialBooked is "we" or "us." Every reader is "you": a visitor to our website, someone talking with us, a funeral home on our plan or a member of its staff.
Information about the families those funeral homes serve is handled differently, under a heading of its own lower on this page.
What reaches us
Forms on our site. Whatever goes into a form here comes to us, typically who you are, where you work, how to email or call you and what you'd like to say.
Calls with us. Setting up a call means we get your name and contact details, your chosen time, plus whatever you mention about your funeral home, and we keep what we jot down while we talk.
Messages. Anything you send us by email, phone, text or social media is kept, together with the details we'd need to write back, so we can respond and know what was said before.
Homes on our plan. A home that signs up gives us what running its plan requires: who we should deal with, how to bill it, logins for the accounts we open or look after for it, and the text and photos it supplies for its website and its ads.
Browsing data. While you browse our website, we and the analytics companies we use pick up some details automatically: the IP address you're browsing from, your device and browser type, each page you view, the time spent on it and the referring site or link.
Call tracking and link tags. Some of our ads and listings show a tracking phone number, and some of our links carry a UTM tag, a short label added to the address. Both show us which ads, searches or links are bringing people in. Each call to a tracking number leaves us the caller's number, the date and time, the call's length and the ad or web page that displayed it. Following a tagged link gives us its tag, which names the campaign or site behind your visit.
Putting it to use
Mostly, your details help us get back to you, run the calls you put on our calendar and explain what our plan offers.
For a home on the plan, the same details go toward invoices, help from your account manager, the monthly report, and getting the plan set up and kept running.
Browsing data, call tracking and link tags tell us which ads and pages of ours are earning their keep, and point to ways our website and services could improve.
Some uses are about safety and the rules: catching fraud or misuse, securing our website and services, meeting what the law asks of us and holding people to our terms of service.
When others get it
No one buys personal information from MemorialBooked. It isn't for sale, and it only goes elsewhere in the cases below.
Our providers. Running the business takes outside help: hosting, the software behind our plan, sending email and texts, phone lines and call tracking, analytics, booking and payments. Whatever we pass them is for work they do on our behalf, nothing else.
Google and Facebook, for your ads. Running your funeral home's ads means giving those platforms what the campaigns need.
Legal demands. Where the law, a court order or some other legal process requires it, information may be handed over. The same goes for protecting someone from harm or defending our legal rights.
A change of ownership. If another company buys MemorialBooked or merges with it, information may go to the new owner along with the business, still under this policy.
Your okay. For anything else, we ask you first.
Texts from us
Once you've handed over a cell number and opted in to texts, that number gets only the messages our SMS terms cover. To end them, answer any text with STOP.
We keep your cell number and opt-in to ourselves, and no other company gets them for marketing.
Families' information, handled for funeral homes
Funeral homes use our software to keep case files, text and email families, set up arrangement meetings and reminders, learn how their websites get used and see which ads and listings bring in calls. So when a home is on our plan, details about its families and website visitors pass through our systems, and we look after them for the home. These come in four kinds: who family members are and how to reach them, details of each case, the messages sent back and forth, and details of calls.
We act as a service provider to each home, under the agreement it signs with us. Decisions about using that information belong to the home, and its privacy notice, not this one, is what governs it.
Family members with a question or request about their details should go to the funeral home they worked with. Anything sent to us instead gets passed along to that home.
Cookies
Cookies are tiny files kept by your browser for the websites you visit. Our website relies on them, and on tools that work like them, to run properly. They also save the settings you pick, tally how many visits we get, and show how people land on the site and what they do there.
A few of these tools belong to other companies, including ad networks and analytics providers, and what they gather from your visit is governed by their own privacy policies. Google Analytics is the one we use to count visits and learn how the site is used, and Google sets out how it uses that data.
To refuse cookies or wipe the ones you have, change your browser's settings. Our pages may not all behave as they should afterward.
Some browsers can send websites a request labeled "Do Not Track." No standard for answering it has been agreed, so our website does nothing different when one arrives.
Keeping and deleting it
We hold onto information just while a reason this policy gives still applies.
If your funeral home is on our plan, that means the whole time you're with us, then for any further period that tax, accounting or legal rules, or a dispute, make necessary. Someone who contacted us without signing up has their details kept through our conversation and for a reasonable stretch after.
When we have no further need for information, it gets deleted or stripped of anything that identifies you. For family information, our agreement with each home decides whether it is kept, returned to the home or deleted.
Safeguards
We guard information with reasonable safeguards in how we work, in our technology and in our offices, and only staff whose jobs require it can get to it.
Even so, perfect security doesn't exist online. Someone could get to information without permission despite our efforts, and we can't promise otherwise. The law sets when a breach that touches your information must be reported to you, and we'll follow it.
Children
The people we build for are funeral home owners and their staff, all adults. Our website isn't meant to collect personal information from anyone under 13, and we don't do so knowingly. Let us know if a child sent us their details anyway, and they will be deleted.
Children can be part of the cases a funeral home handles. Information about them is looked after for the home in the same way as the rest of the family information described earlier.
Your rights
State privacy laws may give you a say over your personal information, such as learning what we have on file about you, getting a copy, having it fixed or erased, and opting out of its sale or of its use in targeted ads.
Email sales@memorialbooked.com with any request. We'll check that the request really comes from you before acting, then answer within the legal time limit. An agent you authorize can also make the request in your place.
We treat you the same whether or not you use these rights.
If we say no to a request, we'll give our reasons. Some states let you appeal by responding to what we decided, and if that doesn't settle it, your state's attorney general can hear your complaint.
For family information held for a funeral home, the request belongs with that home, as covered earlier.
California residents. You have the rights above under California law, and that includes knowing the personal information we gather, its sources, our reasons for using it and who receives it. This policy already answers each one. Look under "What reaches us" for the types of information; it comes from you, from your device and from companies that provide services to us. Our reasons appear under "Putting it to use," and the recipients under "When others get it." We sell no personal information, and none goes to other businesses so they can market to you. Logins and payment details are the sensitive kind of personal information, and we touch them only to run our services and keep those services safe.
Updates
We may revise this policy now and then, and each revision gets a new "last updated" date above. Significant changes also go out by email to the funeral homes on our plan.
